Overview
Escapement is an iOS app for measuring mechanical watch timing. The app uses device permissions only for features you choose to use, such as microphone measurement, watch thumbnail capture, PNG export, optional iCloud sync, and Apple-managed purchases.
Data the App Handles
Escapement may store the following information on your device:
- Timing runs, including calculated rate, beat error, amplitude, BPH, and measurement date.
- Watch profiles, including brand, name, model, default BPH, default lift angle, and thumbnail image.
- Position reports created from saved timing runs.
- App settings, including language, input source, measurement duration, layout, and appearance preferences.
- Filtered tick audio previews for saved runs when the Plus feature is used.
Microphone
Escapement uses microphone access to listen to mechanical watch beats and calculate timing metrics. Microphone input is processed for timing analysis. The app does not use the microphone for advertising or tracking.
Camera and Photos
Camera access is used only when you choose to take a thumbnail photo for a watch in your collection. Photo library add access is used only when you save exported timing screenshots to your photo library.
iCloud Sync
Escapement can use Apple iCloud and CloudKit to sync saved runs, position reports, watch profiles, thumbnails, and, for Plus users who enable it, filtered WAV audio previews. iCloud data is stored in your Apple iCloud account and handled by Apple services.
You can stop using iCloud sync by disabling iCloud for the app in system settings or by deleting the app data from your iCloud account where Apple provides those controls.
Purchases
Escapement Plus subscriptions are processed by Apple through StoreKit. The developer does not receive your payment card number. Apple may provide purchase entitlement status to the app so Plus features can be unlocked or restored.
Support Requests
If you email support, the message and any information you choose to include are used to respond to your request. Avoid sending sensitive personal information that is not needed to troubleshoot the issue.
Third Parties
Escapement does not include third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. Apple services used by the app may include StoreKit for purchases and iCloud/CloudKit for optional sync.
Retention and Deletion
Data stored locally remains on your device until you delete it in the app or remove the app. Data synced through iCloud remains in iCloud until you delete it through the app, remove it through available iCloud controls, or delete the app data where Apple provides that option.
Children
Escapement is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
This policy may be updated when the app changes. The date at the top of this page shows the latest update.
